7th Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy

The Global Congress has become a leading forum, shaping the direction of international responses to the crimes of counterfeiting and piracy, and raising public awareness of the dangers associated with illicit goods.

Cross-sector cooperation

A high-level event, the Congress attracts more than 1,000 participants from a wide range of sectors. Among the attendees are government ministers and policy makers, senior civil servants, business leaders, law enforcement officers, specialist investigators, judges, lawyers, brand owners, consumer groups, members of academia, and representatives from intergovernmental organizations and nongovernmental organizations.

Topics to be discussed

The theme for this year’s congress is “Evolving challenges – innovative responses”.
Sessions will cover a variety of issues, including sales of counterfeit goods on the Internet; the impact on public health and safety; consumer attitudes and awareness; legal developments; the importance of a joint response to transnational organized crime; public-private partnerships; and optimizing the use of new technology.

International expertise

Speakers and moderators come from all parts of the world. Keynote speakers include:

• Dr Kunio Mikuriya, Secretary General of the WCO;
• Dr Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO;
• Mr Ronald K. Noble, Secretary General of INTERPOL;
• Ms Toe Su Aung, 2013 President of INTA;
• Ms Shelley Duggan, Co-Chair of ICC/BASCAP.

Turkey will be represented by Mr Ömer Çelik, Minister of Culture and Tourism and Mr. Hayati Yazici, Minister of Customs and Trade, as well as senior government officials and high-level industry delegates.

Organizers and hosts

This event is organized under a unique public-private partnership with leaders from INTERPOL, the World Customs Organization (WCO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Chamber of Commerce/BASCAP initiative (ICC/BASCAP) and the International Trademark Association (INTA).
The seventh Global Congress is held under the High Auspices of H.E. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and hosted by Turkish Customs, supported by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB).
